The extreme north of this land, where Pintano is included, between woods and broken river courses, is crossed by the main route of St. James’ Road or Camino de Santiago, the so-called French Road. This was a transit road with a variety of cultural influences in mediaeval times, which received special protection from the first Aragonese monarchs, who pushed forward the building of bridges, monasteries and centres of population.
Neolytic culture: ten minutes walking from Pintano is possible to visit 10 neolytic tumbs after watching a nice video about the topic at Sant Anton Church-Museum (that depends on the hotel).
Yesa reservoir: nice and wild beaches bordered by old trees, several roman remains and some medieval villages completed abandoned.
Ruesta: from Pintano it is posible to take a secondary road that borders the rivers between magnificent forests that directs the traveller to a surprising medieval ruined village, Ruesta. Founded by the Moors in the 8th century, Ruesta was once an important border town between the kingdoms of Aragon and Navarre. Once a thriving farming community, Ruesta's fortunes and population declined after the building of the Yesa dam in the 1950's which flooded the village's farmlands.
Bicycle circular routes: from Pintano, through quiet and secondary roads in good condition, direction Ruesta. Then crossing Artieda, Mianos, Martes, with undeniable medieval aroma and romanic origin; in the way back visiting the incredible Bagues raised also in stone with the Pyrinees as background, till the origin.
Festivities are also celebrated in most of these small villages when the summer arrives for San Juan (St. John), with rituals that
date back to far-off times.
Sos del Rey Catolico: is built on the spurs of the Pre-Pyrenees. Here, time seems to have stopped and a walk around the town, declared a Historical-Artistic Ensemble in 1968, is a magical and unrepeatable experience.
Some other places not further than 30 km: San Juan de la Peña, Leyre monastery, Riglos.
